Fulfilling Delhi-wallas never ending appetite in a way that pleases their chatori zubaan, Imly Express, a 250 ft long restaurant, is all set to take you on a delightful culinary ride across the streets of India by offering some delicious street food at a price which is not going to burn a hole in your pocket.
Stationed at the Hog Market in Rajinder Nagar, this train shaped restaurant has three compartments and an engine (kitchen) with rolling wheels, smoke emissions and tooting sounds. The red and creme color of the train, huge windows letting natural light inside, luggage overhead and comfy sofas, all together give a very vintage feel to this casual family diner. This pure vegetarian and alcohol free restaurant has a juice bar in the centre of the train which prepares some delicious concoctions. Amongst all, the strawberry shikanji, that comes in a banta bottle, is certainly a hit.
Imly has successfully created a menu, covering all parts of india, offering the best that the labyrinth of street food that india has to offer. Giving their own unique twists to some dishes in terms of the presentation or the flavour, and the fact they’ll keep adding more dishes to the menu, will certainly make you want to try the place over and over again.
The interesting cutlery along with the interiors adds on to the quirk quotient of the restaurant. The dahi puri chaat comes complementary as an amuse bouche in miniature ferris wheel, gol gappas in a mini wooden cart with a glass barrel to keep the spicy gol gappa water and aloo tikki in a cute mini khadai. The attention to detail is what turns out to be fascinating.
While the bhel puri and chinese bhel didn’t live upto the mark for me, the grilled Bombay sandwich and the mini vada pavs, reminded me of my gluttony in the lanes of mumbai.
The delicious fruit kullah chaat made me feel guilty of having all the other not-so-healthy street food options.
The mix sauce pasta and amritsari kulcha, though tasted fair, lacked repeat appeal and on the other hand, the sev puri and matra tikki were so good that I wouldn’t mind trying those everytime I come here.
One thing that stood out from the rest and became my favourite, would be the dosa- Imly Style. Dosa cut into cylindrical shape and stuffed with veges and cheese. A dosa so good that it could give an authentic masala dosa a run for its price.
If you also find the combination of jalebi and rabdi delicious, then don’t miss onto their Boondi Pag Rabdi. The replacement of jalebi with boondi is interesting and goes well in terms of the texture as well.
Overall, Imly, a name aptly given to a restaurant dedicated to offer street food across India, is sure to take all of its passengers over a culinary journey and leave them well satisfied and satiated without putting burden on their pocket.
In a few weeks of opening in, Imly has been able to generate customers of all age groups who are willing to come again and try their other dishes as well. I being one of them.
Additional Plus Point – Imly is taking care of its Corporate Social Responsibility by joining hands with an NGO named CRY.
