The DIY(Do-it-yourself) cuisine combined with live on-the-table grill concept is not something new to the food industry and hence, in order to make this concept successful, something new has to be brought about to win over the competitors that are existing and booming in the market. Taking this into consideration, The Vapour Grill came into picture with its own little unique twists in order to set itself apart from the other buffet places in the city. A place that not only has a operational micro brewery, but along with that has Live mangolian grill, live pizza, pasta and dessert counter, the vapour grill, located in the ever bustling market of sector 29, Gurgaon, is the new address in town for unlimited grilled food at affordable prices.

The warm ambiance created with wooden hues combined with some beautiful wall murals and the use of green plants here and there, all together gives off a sense of warmth and comfort. Find yourself a place on the tall chair seating in the middle, comfortable sofa seating in the corners or on a table overlooking the green park outside the huge windows, as you enjoy the cold breeze, and let loose and get ready for a gluttony experience ahead.

If you’re not a fan of freshly brewed beer, then fret not as they are equipped with an assortment of drinks to choose from. Amongst the ones I tried, the Long Island Ice Tea was without doubt the shining star. While if you enjoy your mocktails, then summer hummer and mojito can be good options.

My picks from the vegetarian starters would be the Mediterranean Mushrooms and Peshawari Paneer Tikka and from the non vegetarian starters would be the ajwaini jhinga and the gosht seekh. Since the initial starters were a bit high on spice according to my palate, the chef happily replaced all the starters with milder versions of them, which went well with the fresh green chutney. The starter which clearly stood out from the rest was the grilled pineapple, which came on a sword and was cut into thin strips on the table. The char grilled flavour combined with the juicy sweetness of the fruit was an absolute winner. So much so, that I had to try it thrice.

After the starters, I went ahead to try the mangolian counter, which had an array of vegetarian and non vegetarian items to choose from along with your desired level of spice. Looking at the unusual octopus in the counter, I decided to opt for that. Being a bit overcooked, it became chewy and hence, unappetising. Instead, I enjoyed the bowl made with vegetables and rice. The wood fired oven forced me to try their heart shaped pizza, which turned out to be fairly good. While the red sauce pasta didn’t make it well, the white sauce pasta sailed acorss.

Before moving onto the mains, I decided to try their chaat section and enjoyed having the aloo tikki and the papdi chaat.

The waft of the delicious dum biryani had caught my attention and hence, I started my mains with the fragrant and fluffy chicken biryani. I paired my biryani with a spicy punjabi chicken curry, which turned out to be a nice combination. The vegetarian buffet was fairly good too, except the paneer makhni which was a bit on the bland side. For a change they had dal tadka instead of the usual dal makhni, which I had along with basmati rice and ghee.

After taking a halt from the main course, I marched towards the desserts counter. Alas, most of them didn’t live upto my expectations, except the stone ice cream. Mix your choice of ice cream along the desired toppings and you’ll get a different flavour everytime you experiment. My favourite combination being vanilla ice cream with nuts and gulkand.

Overall, my experience at The Vapour Grill turned out to be a ride with its own ups and downs. While a few starters and mains were great, the desserts were a let down. I hope that the place amps up a bit and improvises upon its weak areas in order to take up the competition in the already established market of all-you-can-eat concept head on.
