When dining out is not just about eating but about having fun and enjoying, that’s when a simple meal becomes an experience that one likes to share and cherish.

Offering one such experience is this new entrant in South Extension Market: Circus. A plush market for the elite that has lost it’s luster over the years due to all the construction work happening, making it rather chaotic and congested, South Ex finally has got a place for people to look forward to unwind after a hectic day or simply to catch up with a friend or two over good food, quirky ambiance and potent drinks.

Spread across two floors with crazy funhouse mirrors, a mish-mash of bright colours subdued with mellow warmth of yellow lighting and wooden hues and huge circular chandeliers, Circus is an expansive restaurant that sets a vibrant and cheerful mood, the very moment you enter. Choose to either sit inside the restaurant overlooking the huge bar that is stacked up to offer some great concoctions or unwind a hectic day over the comfortable bright red couches, and if the weather permits, take the flight of stairs and get ready for a hearty meal as you overlook the entire market.

The menu is as eclectic as the decor and offers a nice variety of Italian, Chinese, North Indian and the fun-filled Chin-jabi(Chinese+Punjabi) dishes to choose from. Though it does get a little confusing to move across the menu as it is not divided course-wise, but has a cuisine-wise division.

Start your meal with the chicken tikka chaat and let the unusual chaat-like flavours grow on you quickly with this rather interesting and delicious snack that actually tastes like a bhel puri. The atomic chicken wings are a spicy affair so pairing it along with a super thick shake might help to balance it out. I would recommend the thick chocolate hazelnut cheesecake shake, that is topped with cheesecake which makes it the perfect way to have a shot of dessert, in between meal. Pizza is one dish that could be skipped because of the biscuit-like crust, but don’t let the Italian food lover in you get disappointed and order a circus style pasta that has a beautiful medley of textures and simple flavours with cheese, spinach and mushroom in a buttery sauce. Don’t miss onto the crispy panko fried prawns from the Chinese section, that comes along with a chilli mayo dip. Pair this up with a refreshing kiwi cantaloupe cooler or a glass of chatpata pomonade, that is a blend of pomegranate seeds and lemonade, and you’ll be good to go. And if you’re one who enjoys tikkas with green chutney and onion, then you could skip the tad-bit oily Amritsari fish, but you shouldn’t miss onto the high-on spice and packed full of flavour murgh lahori tikka, which has chunky morsels of spice marinated chicken cooked away in tandoor till it gets a beautiful char.

End your meal on a sweet note with a slice of heavenly chocolate fantasy cake that comes along with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or caramel chocolate turtle sundae, that comes in a glass, which may seem tiny when it comes to the price, but seems worth it when you dig into this decadent dessert that has the creaminess from the caramel ice cream, crunch from the snickers bar and cashews and chocolatyness from the drool-worthy fudge.

Overall, circus is a place where you could get yourself a good meal at a price that wouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket. While the food, drinks and service didn’t leave us disappointed at all, we were expecting a little more fun and circus-like feel overall. Though the clown and colorful wigs worn by the staff were working, just a bit more quirk element will make this a perfect circus, where food and drinks will be the master.
