Must haves: Paneer 65, chicken biryani with salan

Amalgamation of spices, ingredients and fragrances, the credit for some delectable nizami delicacies goes to the royal kitchens of the nizams who are known to go above and beyond to churn out something rich and extravagant.

Passed down through the centuries, this meat-dominant cuisine is marked by a few epic dishes, which we all rave about. Be it biryani, haleem or khubani ka meetha, all find their origins in the kitchens of the Nizams.

To give us a taste of what was served in the royal kitchens, Dil-e-nizam has opened up a delivery only outlet in Sector 14, Gurgaon, offering some authentic Hyderabadi dishes. Tempted to hear about it, I decided to give it a try and was lucky to have made that choice.

Paneer 65, Chicken Biryani and Nalli Nihari

After devouring some delicious paneer 65 that had mellow spiciness and a predominant flavour of fried curry leaves, I jumped onto one of their signature dishes, Nalli Nihari. With the meat falling off the bone, the rich crimson gravy was packed full of spices. It certainly was not the best that I’ve tried, but would surely coax you aching for a good mutton curry. The best dish was kept for the end. Needless to say, it was chicken biryani with mirchi ka salan and raita. Puffy and fragrant rice with tender morsels of chicken accompanied along with spicy mirchi ka salan and raita, to coax taste buds.

Confession: Overall, the meal from Dil-e-nizam turned out to be fairly good. The packaging was neat and the quantity of the food was sufficient. Will look forward to try a few more nizami delicacies from this outlet.
