Strings of deliciousness, noodles, are my ultimate comfort food. Be it late at night while I prepare myself a bowl of not-2-minute noodles or be it in the evening, as I drool watching the chowmein guy, toss the noodles in fiery sauces, making them ready to tingle my taste buds, noodles just make everything good.
And when I got to know that Delhi is going to have a one-of-its-kind noodle bar opening, I couldn’t help myself, but to visit the place ASAP. It was WAI WAI.
Opening it’s first outlet in the ever bustling lanes of hauz khas village, Wai Wai City is all geared up to satiate our noodle cravings, at a price that wouldn’t burn a hole in our pocket, and would surely leave us with tummy-full of deliciousness.
Fuss-free interiors, marked by hanging filament bulbs, Wai Wai Noodle posters all around the walls and an open kitchen, Wai Wai City became my haunt a few days back, where I spent an afternoon gorging onto some delicious noodles, as I sipped some refreshing masala lemonade.
The “fuss-free” element, also, gets extended to their menu, that offers some of their signature pre-set combinations along with a small selection of drool-worthy appetisers. While you may go in for their signature combo, I’d recommend you to ‘make your own noodles’, whereby you have an option to customise your very own bowl of yumminess.
All you have to do is to pick your choice of noodles, classic/roasted/pan fried/crunchy(nostalgia), opt for a sauce, pick up some vegetables and toppings, and you’re sorted!
I was in the mood of trying out something spicy, and hence, opted for classic noodles with the spiciest of all, chilli garlic sauce, and got some onions, capsicum, mushrooms, mixed chillies added and topped it all up with crispy garlic, crispy chilli, fresh red chillies and chilli flakes. Happy to report, the combination came out to be better and spicier than I expected. Didn’t regret my choice of ingredients for a bit!
Though the noodles are good enough to keep you occupied, the appetisers are worth a try too. Go in for some crunchy wai wai bhel as you chit chat or give a break to potato fries and try their zucchini french fries instead. Though it would be the three chilli chicken fry that would do the trick for me. Morsels of juicy chicken tossed with three types of chillies, onions and capsicum and topped with crunchy wai wai noodles, a must have indeed!
Confession: Overall, Wai Wai City turned out to be so much better than I had expected. The place is perfect for those who’re on a budget or are simply looking for something fulfilling. The place will surely take me back to HKV very soon.
Suggestion: Don’t forgot to take the small packets of wai wai noodles(Rs. 1 each) in exchange for the coin change.
