Must haves: Andhra mutton fry, Andhra mutton curry, Mutton Hyderabadi Biryani

A part of staple diet of India, rice is one of the most versatile ingredient, that can find its way in a starter, main course and dessert, and can be spotted in breakfast, lunch and dinner.

While there might be multiple variations that one can give to the humble rice, needless to say, it iss biryani that comes to our mind, the moment we hear the word rice.

Aromatic and flavourful, biryani comes across as the undisputed winner amongst rice dishes, and this can be testified by the different variations that are available in all parts of our country. But it is the Hyderabadi Biryani, cooked in dum in an earthen pot, which draws my attention, because of the medley of spices and flavours, paired with fluffy rice and succulent meat.

To satiate my cravings for a delicious Hyderabadi Biryani, I decided to pay Bikkgane Biryani a visit, and after having some of their offerings, I didn’t regret my decision a bit.

After having a look at their menu, which comprised of tandoori starters, curries, biryanis and desserts, I started my meal with a couple of starters, which the manager had recommended. While the paneer tikka wasn’t the best that I’ve had, the lehsuni chicken tikka and chicken 65 turned out to be great. But it was the Andhra Mutton Fry, which was devoured on sight, that turned out to be one of the best dishes that I tried here. Doused in a deep crimson masala, the spicy morsels of mutton were succulent and packed full of flavours, making it a must have.

Before jumping on to the biryani, I ordered a portion of chicken kolhapuri and Andhra mutton curry, along with laccha paranthas and garlic naan. In the main course too, the mutton dish came out as the winner because of the beautiful play of spices, which went well with the flaky laccha parantha.

All the biryanis that are served at bikkgane biryani, come along with a portion of mirchi ka salan, to add a punch of spice and raita, to coax the punch of spice. I ordered a portion of chicken Hyderabadi biryani and a portion of mutton Hyderabadi biryani. The rice was perfectly cooked, had a beautiful aroma, the meat was succulent and falling off-the-bone, but somehow, even here, mutton seemed to have become the highlight, as compared to the chicken biryani, which has potential for improvement.

For those who enjoy sweet Indian desserts, the double ka meetha at Bikkgane Biryani will definitely satiate your sugar cravings.

Confession: Overall, my experience at Bikkgane Biryani turned out to be much better than what I had expected. Even on a weekday in the afternoon, the restaurant was packed and had people waiting, which justifies the quality of dishes that they are offering.

    1. You’re right. These people have changed their name from Paradise Biryani to Bikkgane Biryani because people were confusing it with “paradise” from Hyderabad. In order to prevent a law suit(probably), they renamed it to Bikkgane Biryani, A unit of Paradise Biryani. Also, the famous biryani place in Hyderabad(which you are referring to) is named just Paradise and not Paradise Biryani πŸ™‚
Hope I’ve helped answer your question
