Healthy need not be boring according to the ‘Au Naturel’ menu at Sorrento, Shangri-La

With growing consciousness of a healthy lifestyle, we can observe a slight tilt towards fitness and well-being. While we do have the Global Wellness Month all through June, it is imperative for us to understand the importance of living a fit life to get us going for the action-packed days, all throughout the year.

Imbibing the essence of World Wellness, the award-winning Italian restaurant Sorrento at Shangri-La brings to us an all new ‘Au Naturel’ menu that gives a wholesome twist to Italian delicacies, ensuring that your palate is wooed without compromising on the health element.

Curated by Executive Chef Neeraj Tyagi under training from Michelin Star Chef Florent Boivin from the Institute of Paul Bocuse in Lyon, the menu has some great dishes at its disposal that will be in place until 30th June. While the words ‘Healthy and Natural’ would ring a bell of a menu that consists of mundane salads and green smoothies, the menu actually boasts of dishes like crab salad, potato ravioli, lamb loin et al.

My love for sweet crab meat was enough to help me march my fork and knife towards the Atlantic crab salad, that comprised of a small heap of crab meat accompanied with some sweet and tangy strawberry soup and refreshing basil foam, making it a balanced dish overall.

Potato ravioli didn’t come across as a healthy dish per se and hence, was ordered to inspect. To my amazement, the potato was not used as a filling but as the outer covering of the ravioli itself, that was stuffed with shiitake mushrooms and doused in a simple potato broth which didn’t overpower the flavour of the mushrooms.

The eternal combination of lamb and rosemary was highlighted with the elegant seared lamb loin that was topped with jus and rosemary essence along with baby leeks, and gratin potatoes on the side.

The pièce de résistance has to be the Chilean sea bass, which had a crisp seared crust and melt in the mouth fish meat which was paired with quinoa pilaf and smoked eggplant puree. The quintessential citrus kick that is required with seafood was imparted by the light lemon jus and pickled eggplant.

No meal can conclude without a good dessert and keeping in mind the soaring temperature in Delhi, the fruity sorbets come as a great respite, which are taken up a notch by the Chef to make them picture-worthy. While I enjoyed the sweet honey roasted plum came with raspberry sorbet and almond crunch, the strawberry sorbet with olive oil cake has to be my favourite. Devoured on sight, the dessert turned out to be a treat with the citrusy olive oil cake paired with fruity strawberry sorbet and the crunch element was brought out with the flax seed tuile and oat streusel, making it a texturally balanced dessert.

Confession: Overall, the Au Naturel menu that is currently in play at Sorrento is nothing less than a delight. The dishes break the misnomer of healthy being boring and it is because of this reason why I’d give it a thumbs up!
