If you’re in a lookout for a place to catch up with friends over a few drinks and good food, then look no further because Summer House Café in Hauz Khas could be your haunt.

A flight of stairs take you to the spacious restaurant, that offers inside seating, outside seating and a terrace seating as well. While I would have loved to enjoy my drinks and grub on the terrace, the weather didn’t allow and hence, I decided to find a spot near the bar that turned out to be the center of attraction in the restaurant, given the array of spirits on display.

The bar menu and the drinks menu, both are replete with a number of options to choose from, thereby ensuring that no palate goes unsatisfied. Given the fact that I visited on a hot afternoon, I was advised to try the juniper pimms cocktail, to which I happily agreed. This gin based lemonade had bits of cucumber and a hint of coriander, making it just the perfect drink to offer respite on a hot day.

Amidst chatting, the sticky bourbon chicken wings and loaded nachos were devoured on sight. While it might be a little meek to comment on how the nachos were, I must emphasize the fact that they were truly loaded with tomatoes, onions, oodles of cheese and chunks of smoked chicken.

Having watched the movie “Chef” a good number of times, I had to try the Cuban pressed sandwich, the moment I saw it on the menu. Without beating around the bush, I opted for the cheesy overload Cuban sandwich, and as the name would suggest, is a delight for cheese lovers. Speaking of which, smoked chicken and alfredo pasta is also a cheese-lovers delight. The description said that it had greens in it, and because I was on a cheat day, the greens were omitted and the spaghetti was demolished.

The chicken tikka masala was one dish that didn’t quite seem right. While the curry had no issue with it, the accompanying bread, the Malabar parantha appeared raw and hence, had to be skipped. The spicy lamb keema with hot buttered pavs on the other hand, turned out to be rather good when paired with a glass of their Lynchberg lemonade.

To conclude the meal on a sweet note, I ordered their tiramisu and mega brownie sundae mug. My only qualm with the sundae was the quality of brownies that were used, which is what makes the dessert what it is. The brownies were rather dry and the ice cream along couldn’t help to bring it together. The tiramisu was the saving grace, and was actually “sinfully addictive”, as the description of it mentioned. It has the quintessential boozy element, which made it my favourite and helped me to end my meal on a toothsome note!

Confession: Overall, my afternoon a summerhouse turned out to be much better than what I had expected. I was under the impression that since its more of a party place, it couldn’t deliver as good food or service, but after my visit, I reckon I’ll have to change my opinion for the good!
